The 36-year-old self-employed staunch Amakhosi supporter had a low-key dinner with his family on Sunday night to celebrate what he called a ‘blessing from God’.
“I prayed the whole week together with my wife Hemirna,” revealed the elated Khumalo. “I entered the competition in December when Nissan, together with Kaizer Chiefs, were at Majita Carwash in Pimville. I remember leaving the venue empty-handed after I had test driven one of the cars and got a chance to spin the wheel. One of the officials told me that I might go to the finals to win the car, but I never believed it,” he said.
“Even now I do not believe I have won the car...it is like a dream. The car could not have come at a better time for me and my family as we were struggling a little bit. I am still contemplating how I am going to make use of the car,” continued Khumalo.
Smanga revealed that a supporter, who was at the Village together with his wife, had a hand in him winning the prize. “My wife asked me to go play the lotto for him in the morning before going to the Village. I noticed that she had chosen a lot of eights.”
While at the Village I was talking about winning the Lotto jackpot to one of the supporters. The guy mentioned something about the number eight. I chose eight but the key could not start the car. When Number 10 did not start the car either we had check our keys and the one that had N200 engraved on the key was the winner. I could not believe when it was announced that the key with NP200 is the winner as I had NP200 engraved on my key. I want to thank God, the Kaizer Chiefs Family and Nissan for the opportunity,” he added.
Kaizerchiefs.com jokingly asked whether Smanga winning the car might have had anything to do with Kaizer Chiefs legend, Doctor Khumalo. "I went to the same school with him in Dube Soweto. He was doing Standard 10 (Grade 12) and I was doing Standard 6 (Grade 8). We are not related and me winning the prize definitely has nothing to do with Mdokis,” he said, laughing.
