It is an honour – Masango

“It always feels good and it is an honour to represent the Team every time one gets a chance to play. Playing for the first time in the Champions League and scoring the first goal for the Team was exciting for me. All honour must go to the Team at this stage. We played Black Africa that we didn’t know much about and we had to deliver the goods,” said Mandla Masango.

Masango broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute of the game when Chiefs beat Black Africa from Namibia by 3 -0 in their first leg of the 2014 CAF Champions League opener.

“I saw Knowledge (Musona) drifting wide on the right and I had to take his position in the box. I saw an opening and took a good position in the box. Knowledge lifted his head and saw me and delivered a perfect cross which I took with precision to score. The reason I ran off the pitch to greet the Kit Managers after scoring is that when I heard the Coach mentioning my name in the starting line up at the camp, I promised the kit managers that I was going to score one of the goals. I would like to thank the Technical Team for giving me the opportunity to contribute to the Team. I cannot forget the support I always receive from the Amakhosi family at large,” commented Masago.

“I am working hard to improve. I am doing a lot of extra work outside the Team’s training schedule. Keeping focus and doing extra work keeps me going. I am motivated by the love for the game and the opportunity to play for such a prestigious Club,” continued Masango.

“The focus is now turned to our league game against Maritzburg United in Pietermaritzburg on Tuesday night. We are looking forward to a win and to maintain our good run. We have good support at Harry Gwala Stadium and we have to do our best to win the game,” said Masango.

The Amakhosi take on Maritzburg United at Harry Gwala Stadium on Tuesday, 11th February 2014. Kickoff is at 19:30.
