“I am very happy to have started this way,” reflects Cameldine Abraw about his official debut for the Amakhosi against SuperSport United last weekend. “It’s great being part of the champions.”
The Togolese came on in the 80th minute against Matsatsantsa when it was still 2-1. Accordingly, Abraw set-up the third goal for George Lebese and created the penalty, which Siphiwe Tshabalala finished from the spot.
The 25-year-old joined Kaizer Chiefs this season from Free State Stars. Before coming on against SuperSport, the Togolese international had a quick chat with coach Steve Komphela. “He just gave me confidence to do my best,” says Abraw. “The coach supported me.”
A week before making his Chiefs debut, the striker helped Togo beat Djibouti 2-0 in a 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier. Abraw came on for the Togolese in the second half.
Amakhosi face Ajax Cape Town this Saturday in the MTN8 final. “We are still preparing for that game,” Abraw looks ahead, “to make sure that we get ready for the cup final. There are no secrets to success, it’s all about hard work.”
