Speaking to kaizerchiefs.com after training on Monday, Jambo who struggled with injury last season explained that he believes his fortunes will be altered in the coming campaign.
“How much I play is up to the coach and the kind of tactics he will employ, it’s my job to work hard and try to ensure that I am part of his and the technical teams plans. I also feel that if I stay injury free I will manage to get more game time than I did in the last season.”
Jambo had the opportunity to feature in both Chiefs pre-season Vodacom Challenge encounters; he has used those opportunities to ready himself for regular service when the season starts with the MTN8 competition at the beginning of August.
Through the two pre-season friendly matches that I played I saw that initially my first touch let me down but as the games progressed I improved, hopefully by the time the MTN8 starts I will be at the desired fitness and form level that I wish to be. There will be no excuses for me by the time we face BIDVest Wits.”
Jambo also feels that his ability to keep his head up even in the face of adversity will come in handy over a long season, “when I was not playing last season I never got depressed. This is the time when you need to do the most work on the training ground, because when your chance arrives you need to be ready to deliver for the team.”
Another challenge faced by Jambo last season was the battle for the left back role, with Punch Masenamela having departed, Jambo will be pressed hard by new Chiefs signing Keegan Ritchie for the starting slot at left back.
Of the battle to get into the game day eleven he said “It will be difficult no doubt, Keegan is a fantastic player tactically and technically and competing with him will be a challenge. It is one that I look forward to as I do believe that the competition will be healthy for me as it will ensure that I do not get complacent and carry on working hard.”
