Jambo waiting for Maritzburg lift off

Amakhosi defender Zhaimu Jambo is not concerned by the fact that he has not seen any game time for the Amakhosi yet this season, last season he waited five games into the season before getting playing his first game.

Once he did make his Chiefs debut Jambo in his rookie season for Chiefs he went on to play a total of 20 league games for the club, “the fact that I have not played so far is not particularly a problem to me. I waited patiently last season and then when I got the chance to play I excelled, so I am willing to bide my time waiting support my team and wait for my chance to come.”

Jambo who recently turned 23 is hoping that he gets to feature in Wednesday evening’s Absa Premiership clash when Chiefs travel to Pietermaritzburg to face Maritzburg United.

There are personal goals behind why he would particularly like to face Maritzburg, “I scored my first goal for Chiefs against them last season so they are a special team for me on a personal level. Hopefully I get the chance to face them and I would like to score again if the opportunity comes my way, just kidding more importantly though we need to get a win against them.”

Maritzburg according to Jambo will be no walk over’s and it will take a special effort to defeat them, “I watched their opening game against Amazulu very carefully they played well and were unlucky not to have won the game or at least drawn. People regard Maritzburg as a small team, I don’t see them that way they really play a good game and make you work hard. The fact that a feisty team makes playing them challenging and enjoyable.”

The Chiefs defender believes that they have learnt from last season how to deal with Maritzburg, “we know they have had some changes to their team but the core of their key guys like Rudolph Bester if he plays and Fadlu Davids are still around.

They have dangerous attackers and need to be marshalled well we cannot afford to give them sight of goal, it will take a solid defensive effort from us tonight to keep them quiet. So far this season our guys have done their defensive duties well and I am sure that this will be the same for this game.”
