The Japanese rock band Sawagi visited Kaizer Chiefs Village today. The group is touring South Africa at the moment and, as soccer lovers, they were eager to visit the headquarters of Kaizer Chiefs about which they heard so much in Japan.

“Also, everywhere we went in South Africa, people would talk about Kaizer Chiefs,” says Sawagi’s manager Takeo Hori.

The instrumental band plays dance music - mixing up, Jazz, Funk, Hip-Hop and Electro.

Sawagi, which means ‘let’s make noise together’, performed last weekend at the OppiKoppi festival in Northam, a mining town close to Brits.

They were excited meet up with Siphiwe Tshabalala and Bernard Parker, who both played at the 2010 World Cup. Tshabalala, as everybody will remember, scored the opening goal at the World Cup in South Africa. “We all remember that goal,” Hori admits.

After buying the new Kaizer Chiefs home jersey for the 2016/2017 season, Sawagi left the Village. “We will now be Amakhosi 4 Life,” the Japanese visitors stress.

They have a busy schedule ahead, performing live at The Sheds (1 Fox Street, Johannesburg) on Friday, 12 August, and Arcade Empire (Lynnwood Road, Pretoria) on Saturday, 13 August.
