Kaizer Chiefs confirmed the acquisition of Bhongolethu Lonwabo Jayiya on Thursday afternoon. ‘Bhongo’ as he is affectionately known arrives in Naturena from Cape Town City FC. The 27-year-old hails from Dlamini in Soweto and has penned a three-year deal from 1 July 2017 to 30 June 2020.
“I heard about the interest from Chiefs towards the end of my contract with City last season,” says Jayiya. “This is a childhood dream becoming a reality. I am excited about this move and just want to get on to the pitch and let my feet do the talking. I am here to assist to bring back the glory days.”
Bhongo plays as a right-footed attacking midfielder. He appeared 24 times for Cape Town City in all competitions and netted 6 goals in the process. He will be remembered for scoring the fastest hattrick in South African football history when Cape Town City beat Chippa United 4-1 on 3 April 2017.
“We have been in talks with Bhongo over the last two weeks and finally signed him this afternoon,” confirms Amakhosi’s Football Manager, Bobby Motaung. “We discussed with Cape Town City and they gave us a good report about his attitude. We also looked at the kind of system we are playing, with his agility and experience, he will come handy.”
Bhongo also played for Bidvest Wits and Maritzburg United before turning out for Mpumalanga Black Aces, which became Cape Town City FC last season.
Meanwhile, as earlier reported the club has sealed the agreement to release Camaldine Abraw from his contract and wished the Togolese all the best in his future endeavours.
