“Saturday will be Valentine’s Day,” says Kaizer Chiefs marketing director Jessica Motaung. “How better to spend time together then watching your favourite team on our African journey.”

The Amakhosi host Botswana’s Township Rollers in the preliminary round of the CAF Champions League at Johannesburg’s FNB Stadium on Saturday evening (kick-off at 19:30).

This is the third time that Chiefs play in the African Champions League, after 2014 and 2005 (both time out in the second round).

The Amakhosi also played in 1993 in the predecessor of the Champions League, the African Champions Cup, which ran from 1964 until 1996. But Chiefs were eliminated even then in the second round.

Of course, the Amakhosi did win the African Cup Winners’ Cup (also called Mandela Cup at the time) thanks to beating Angola’s Interclube in the final. This CAF competition is nowadays named the CAF Confederations Cup.

“This time we want to reach at least the Group Stage,” continues Motaung. “As is our motto – if you can dream it, you can do it. It’s our ultimate goal to compete with Africa’s top sides in the Champions League.”

“We will also have a competition to coincide with Valentine’s Day on Saturday. The ten best dressed couples will win a prize, which will be handed over at halftime. Come join us and be part of our Love & Peace vibe at the FNB Stadium.”

The tickets for the Township Rollers match are on sale at Computicket and Shoprite/Checkers outlets nationwide. The cost of the ticket is R40 and R10 for adults and children respectively.
