Chiefs are competing in the CAF Champions League for the third time, in both their previous campaigns they were eliminated in the second round in 1993 by Egyptian side Zamalek and in 2005 by Esperance of Tunisia.
Chiefs are participating in African competition for the first time since their 2005 CAF Champions League campaign.
Kaizer Chiefs are playing their first African Champions League game at Soccer City since May 1993, almost 21 years ago when they defeated Egyptian side Zamalek 2-1 in a second round first leg clash.
This is only Chiefs’ second CAF Champions League game at Soccer City the other was against Zamalek in 1993.

In the CAF Champions League home and away Chiefs have lost just three games out of 12 games, these defeats were all away from home in 1993 1-0 to Zamalek, 2-1 to AS St Louis of Mauritius and 4-0 to Esperance of Tunisia both in 2005.
Chiefs first game in African club competition was a 1-0 win over LCS Gunners now Extension Gunners of Botswana in 1993, in an African Champions League Preliminary round game.
