Moses Mabhida was selected as the venue after the draw decided that the two biggest nemesis of South African football will face each other in the Telkom Knockout quarterfinal. Because there’s a league derby in seven days later, it only makes sense the game takes place at our alternative home venue.
It is a known fact that this game is the principal South African sporting advert, not only on the African continent, but also worldwide.
We as Kaizer Chiefs selected the stadium because of the special relationship the institution has with the province of KwaZulu-Natal.
The supporters also showed their love and hunger for the match by purchasing their tickets immediately after going on sale, with the tickets being sold out in a flash.
This game by its nature is a knockout competition, meaning we need to have a winner on the day. We understand that it’s not easy for both sets of supporters to lose a fixture like the Soweto Derby. However, as true lovers of the game, we understand that there can only be one winner on the day.
As Kaizer Chiefs, we have been working hard to ensure that we prepare the best side for the encounter and the technical team has also been working tirelessly to ensure we will put in maximum effort.
There are some injuries, but we know that the team that will be fielded on the day will wear the jersey with pride and do all they can to ensure we will reach the next round.
On Saturday, we appeal to our beloved supporters to arrive early, wear their colours and enjoy this great football spectacle.
We sincerely appeal to travelling Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates supporters for safety on the road. We need all of them when the two sides meet again next weekend in the Absa Premiership at FNB Stadium.
Let us once again show the great atmosphere we’ve shown in recent weeks and put on a good show on the stands.
Let us continue to be One Team, One Voice, One Family!
Love & Peace!
