Kaizer Chiefs were able to score three times via the penalty by Jonathan Quartey against Manchester United and two goals scored during the Soweto derby by Jose Torealba and Kaizer Motaung Jr.
The campaign raised funds for cataract operations performed through the South African National Council for the Blind (SANCB), the Pretoria Eye Institute’s Sight 4 U Cataract Project, and the Netcare Vodacom Sight For You Programme.
The exciting fundraising concept will be taken to the next level during the 2008/2009 Absa Premiership Season.
Kaizer Chiefs including Vodacom-sponsored clubs will be able to raise funds for the beneficiaries when scoring, as they strive to reach the total of R4 million to be paid out to the three organizations by the end of May 2009.
Kaizer Chiefs Chairman, Kaizer Motaung described the Vodacom Foundation’s initiative as a major step forward in terms of Corporate Social Investment (CSI), which will go a long way towards brightening up the lives of the people, who had until now faced a bleak future. "The Vodacom Foundation’s Goals for Miracles campaign is a heart-touching one and it allows our players to steer Kaizer Chiefs to raise funds for the beneficiaries while at the same time go for goals during the 2008/2009 season."
The overall amount donated to the campaign was a total sum of R900 000 00 for all the goals scored during the tournament.
