The first stop was at Vutomi Inyiko in Meadowlands where the Public Relations Manager, Siyabulela Makunga accompanied by colleagues, Thebe Mohatle, players Itumeleng Khune and Thele Ngobeni went to hand-over a R5440000 cheque to the institution that houses destitute children.
Kaizer Chiefs Brand Manager, Dara Carroll talking to kaizerchiefs.com gave some background of the initiatives, “These funds were raised through various fundraising initiatives by the Club. We came to Vutom Inyiko as part of our project on Valentines Day last year . The players were trilled by the bravery that the children showed at the institution. The players asked us to be involved with them on angoing basics and they have since visited the Village and we gave them a television set too."
Linah Maluleke who founded the initiative eight years ago together with an official from Central Gauteng Health Department, Gloria Stemar accepted the cheque on behalf of the institution.
“God is great” said the delighted Linah Maluleke. “We would like to thank Kaizer Chiefs for this contribution. God should bless you. We hope that the relations between us and the Club will continue even longer” she said.
The second stop was at the Carroll Shaw Foundation where the Club gave out the R30 000 as part of the funds raised through Telkom Charity last year. Carroll Shaw was the nominated institution by the Club. The contribution did not end there. The Amakhosi Family donated another R54 000 to the institution that houses HIV patients who are largely from child headed families and victims alcohol and drug abuse.
Chief Operations Officer (COO), Oupa Bila was present to accept the cheques on behalf of the institution, “We do not see this as a donation, but as a blessing. We are blessed and honoured to have this relationship with you (Kaizer Chiefs). Kaizer Chiefs continues to give hope to those who are less fortunate and I wish all teams in the PSL can follow suit” he said.
Carroll Shaw deals with home based care in areas, Zuurbekom, Waterworks, and Jachfontein where they are looking after 152 patients with 48 support groups.
“The chunk of this money will go towards transport. We sometimes need to take patients from their homes to clinics at Zuurbekon which is bit far so this ‘blessing’ has come at a right time for us. We would like to thank Kaizer Chiefs Football Club and we hope that this is not the last time that you come here and our relationship will grow from strength to strength” he added.

Makunga said, “Kaizer Chiefs as a Family has a responsibility to make a difference to the lives of the needy. We cannot only concentrate on activities on the field and through these donations we are doing our bit to give back to the needy so as to give hope to destitute children and communities”.
The last request from Carroll Shaw though, “Please, please, beat Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday” said Oupa who is a staunch Kaizer Chiefs supporter.
