The Kaizer Chiefs legends arrived safely in Newcastle, KwaZulu-Natal, last night ahead of today’s clash against a KZN XI led by Fani Madida.

The game is part of the Siyabonga Nkosi Youth Festival and will be played at the Amajuba College Stadium, eMadadeni (kick off at 12:00).

Striker Shane MacGregor sustained a calf injury in last week’s 3-1 win over a Nkandla XI and had to withdraw from the squad. Defender Fabian McCarthy struggles with a groin injury, but he will probably start.

Other legends in the squad include Brian Baloyi, William Shongwe, Derrick Spencer, Fabian McCarthy, Cyril Nzama, Gardner Seale, Ntsie Maphike, Thabo Mooki, Arthur Zwane, Frank Makua, Tshepo Molatedi, Abel Shongwe and Wellington Manyathi.

Abel Shongwe scored a beauty in the Nkandla win, striking from long distance. “It was a bit of luck,” he confesses, before adding that “that’s what you need when hitting the ball from distance.”

About the clash against the KZN XI, Shongwe says: “We are ready. As Kaizer Chiefs we are always looking for a win.”

The legends will give this Tuesday morning also a soccer clinic, which starts at 09:00.
