South African players Daniel Cardoso, Ramahlwe Mphahlele and Bruce Bvuma; Zimbabwean duo of Khama Billiat and Teenage Hadebe; the Malagasy midfielder ‘Dax’ Adrianarimanana and Nigerian shot stopper Daniel Akpeyi are in Egypt on behalf of their countries at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations`.
Returning after taking part in other national duties will be Reeve Frosler and Njabulo Blom, who represented South Africa respectively at the COSAFA and FIFA U-20 World Cup tournaments.
New signee, Lazalous Kambole will after penning a three-year deal join and meet his new teammates for the first time on Wednesday. Kambole joins Amakhosi from Zambian giants Zesco United. He helped Zesco lift a Cup on Saturday in his last game for the Zambian outfit.
Goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune is progressing well on his journey back to fitness after a long absence due to a shoulder injury. Happy Mashiane on the other hand is ready to resume training after a long absence due to a toe injury. Nkosingiphile Ngcobo is also making great progress as he works on his recovery from an Achilles injury but is not expected to join his teammates in full training during this pre-season. The medical team will assess the trio throughout the pre-season and give an update on their anticipated return and readiness to participate in competitive matches.
Amakhosi parted ways with no less than eight of its players in preparation of the upcoming 2019/20 season. Hendrick Ekstein, Bhongolethu Jayiya, Ryan Moon, Virgil Vries, Gustavo Páez, Khotso Malope, Emmanuel Letlotlo and Brylon Petersen have parted ways with Amakhosi for a variety of reasons. Meanwhile talks are proceeding for the release of two or more players.
The process of rebuilding the team ahead of the new season is underway with further announcements expected in due course.
Amakhosi will hold testing and training sessions before heading off-site for camp. As part of the camp, the team will embark on a few training matches with local and international teams.
The fan favourite pre-season friendly, Carling Black Label Cup returns on Saturday, 27 July. The much-awaited Soweto Derby will take place at FNB Stadium, kick-off is at 15:00.
