Kaizer Chiefs refute allegations of spat

Kaizer Chiefs would like to comment on some incorrect media reports.

It has been mentioned that there was a dispute between our Football Manager Bobby Motaung and our player Itumeleng Khune during last Wednesday’s Absa Premiership game between Chiefs and Polokwane City.

The Club wants to stress that at no time was there a discussion between Motaung and Khune about the goalkeeper not being allowed to enter the pitch to join the championship winning celebrations.

Khune was suspended for the Polokwane game, due to having received a red-card against AmaZulu.

“I didn’t even speak to Itu on the day,” reacts Motaung about the allegations that there was a heated discussion between the two. “The words in the newspapers are not authentic.”

Khune was also shocked to see the newspaper reports: “Those stories are not true. Besides that, I was sitting with the other players in the Super Suite, while Bobby was in the Presidential Suite.”

Chiefs also would like to reiterate that contract negotiations between players and clubs can sometimes take time. We have informed the media on numerous occasions on the progress of the various talks.

For example, we recently extended the contracts for Siphiwe Tshabalala and Brilliant Khuzwayo.

Other contracts, however, can take longer to be concluded.

We started the negotiations with Khune and Mashamaite already last year. “To conclude a deal, we need two to tango,” says Motaung. “Some negotiations can be quickly done, while others take longer. The talks with both players are ongoing.”

The Club will give an update on contract negotiations when there is news available.
