Premier Soccer League (PSL) Chairman, Irvin Khoza congratulated the new sponsors, MTN. “Congratulations MTN and welcome to the family of professional soccer sponsors.” he concluded.
Chief Marketing Officer of MTN SA, Pieter Verkade said, “As the only African global sponsor of the 2010 Fifa World Cup South Africa, MTN has shown its passion for football. Through the MTN 8 competition we are taking that passion and giving South African football fans the opportunity to see the best clubs in the country competing for the lucrative R8 million, winner takes all prize - Wafa Wafa! (which is loosely translated as “last man standing”),” adding that the rational for the winner takes all is to ensure that the team ‘works hard for it not only to be content making it to the final’.
Pieter Verkade also revealed that there will be prizes up for grabs for fans to win during half-time. The competition kicks off on the 8 August. The semifinals, which will be played on a home and away basis will take place on the weekends of the 16-17 August and 23-24 August. The final will be played on 21 September, World Peace Day.
