Motaung followed in the footsteps of former Bafana Bafana star and current Vasco Da Gama striker Sibusiso Zuma becoming just the second player to have scored at the venue in both periods of its history.
Speaking to Kaizerchiefs.com after the win over the ‘Brazilians’ a clearly delighted Motaung said, “to be honest when I scored the goal I did not know about this historical achievement. It is a comforting stat to know, and it being a significant one is an added bonus for the club who just celebrated its 41st birthday and also for the Chairman my teammates, coaching staff and the fans.”
For Motaung on a personal note the goal was his first league goal of the season, in addition it saw him bring to an end a long goal drought stretching back to October 2009. It was also the first time that he managed to score a goal against Sundowns in a league game.
Speaking of his joy at bringing those runs to an end he said, “for sure I am pleased to have scored, as a striker it is part of my job to score. It is a new year and hopefully a new start. It is always great to score no matter who you playing against, I would rather prefer scoring regularly than just against the big teams.”
Victory against Sundowns has meant that Chiefs cut the ‘Brazilians’ lead at the top of the table to a single point Motaung insists that there still remains a lot of work for the Amakhosi to do in order for them to challenge for league honours.
Everyone is really pleased that we were able to beat Sundowns it was great, winning this game is like a six pointer for us. This win is a small stepping stone to help us get to where we want to go, we need to continue working hard and remain focus as there remains much for us to do still do.”
