Kaizer Chiefs’ Executive Chairman Kaizer Motaung shared his thoughts on 2012 with kaizerchiefs.com:
“Foremost 2012 was an eventful year, a lot of good and bad happened especially if you consider that some people lost their beloved during the year. If you look at the Club you will notice that we ended the 2011/12 season in May on a low note which left us with no other option but to effect changes in the Team. We dedicated the second half of 2012 to change as you have seen the subsequent better and improved second half of the year. Even though we lost in the early stages of the knockout competitions we did well in the league and went into Christmas break topping the log standings.
“Obviously the new year will come with its implications especially if one looks back to how we lost to Bidvest Wits in the Telkom Cup, remember that we contributed a considerable number of players to Bafana Bafana’ escapade in Poland and Kenya but at the end we ended up with ‘egg on our faces’ when we were forced to play the important game under pressure. We pleaded without success with the PSL for cooperation and sanity to give us at least two days extension to integrate our players back into the team before we could take on Wits. Now we are faced with 2013 Afcon, with the prospects of our players featuring in the tournament and if the situation is not managed properly we might face the same fate given that we are scheduled to visit Mamelodi Sundowns in a league game two days after the Afcon finals.
“On a positive side our Marketing Department partnered with our sponsors Hollard to register Rugby 7’s Team which participated in the NBM 7’s Premier League tournament in Outeniqua Park, George. This innovation extended Chiefs brand in unfamiliar terrain and that augers well for the brand. We will be looking at improving in that space going forward.
“At this stage we would like to thank the supporters for standing with the team throughout the year. Thank you to the Technical Team and the players for their hard work. The staff cannot be forgotten because they play a pivotal role in the Club. Thank you to the soccer fraternity at large for pulling through the year.
“We wish everyone the best of everything and wish that everyone returns in one piece in 2013. We also wish the former State President Nelson Mandela good health and a speedy recovery. We would like to appeal to all our supporters to observe the spirit of Amakhosi that of Love and Peace and to live up to the values of Christmas, sharing and giving,” concluded ‘Chincha Guluva’
