Club’s legend, Wellington ‘Umntu Akalahlwa’ Manyathi has paid tribute to the hard tackling midfielder, Willard Katsande describing him as an ‘asset’ to the team that is challenging for league honours this season.

The Zimbabwean born midfielder who has earned himself a nickname, ‘Cheese & Onion’ from kaizerchiefs.com joined the Glamour Boys from Ajax Cape Town at the start of 2011/2012 season but it is this season that he has stamped his authority in the team earning praise from analysts, supporters and his teammates alike.

“He is definitely one of the key players in Stuart Baxter’s team. He is an asset for the Club. He doing a good job in the middle of the park,” said Manyathi a key member of Jeff Buttler’s team that won a double back in 1992.

“I played in the same role as Willard back in the days. I was responsible for doing the dirty job for the team but also I would also bring an element of surprise when we attack or when we have to switch play. Willard is a good player and is thriving in the system the Club is playing this season. Defensively, there is no weakness in his game."

Manyathi called on Katsande to stamp his authority in the team; “He needs to get more involved both when the team is attacking and defending. I would like to see him commanding things in the middle of the park by being more vocal."

“He is a hardworker and there is no question about his work ethic. He is going to improve and when that happens he is going to be even a greater player in the gold and black. He should not really worry about getting recognition like winning the ‘Man of the Match’ awards but he should know that he is a very important player for the team,” added Manyathi.
