The 22-year-old utility player, Wayne Matle takes time to take questions from the supporters. 'Gazi' as the player is affectionately known talks about what it means to don the gold and black. He also insists that the current U23 will definitely qualify for the Olympics in 2012.

Who is your role model?

Salani Maluleka

Wayne Matle: It has to be my mother, Sybal Matle (38) for sure! She has a great personality. Whatever she does, she does it with love. She also looks after me and I am now doing the same. I really look up to her.

When do you think you will be a regular at Chiefs…is it not frustrating warming the bench whilst other players are trading their skills on the pitch?

Honest Mxokozeli

Wayne Matle: (laughs) This is a very difficult question to answer. I am happy for the guys who have been given an opportunity by the Coach as they are doing a great job. It is about the team. I support the guys all the way and when my opportunity comes I will grab it.

What will you do if Orlando Pirates or Mamelodi Sundowns want to buy your services?

Thabo Mpshe

Wayne Matle: (Jumps in) No, I have no reason to leave Kaizer Chiefs. I grew up here since my days from the Academy. I am happy here. I have no interest in playing for those two Clubs.

How does playing for Kaizer Chiefs make you feel?

Patrick Ncube

Wayne Matle: Yoh! It is amazing my man! It is every youngster’s dream in the country to don the gold and black jersey. It’s an honour. It is a kind of feeling that I can’t put into words…but I can express it with my commitment on the pitch.

How do you feel when you are not in the first team?

Tlou Morifi

Wayne Matle: I am not sad at all because the guys have been doing a great job. I am working hard at training and waiting for my opportunity. I am not discouraged at all.

Where did you learn your somersaults?

Ace Dinga

Wayne Matle: I learnt them at an early age at home in Reiger Park. I used to do them on the floor at home - and of course when I played, I started doing them on the pitch.

(Kaizerchiefs.com note: Wayne Matle celebrated his penalty during the recent Macufe Cup by doing somersaults)

Who is your best friend at Chiefs?

Mpo Mendu

Wayne Matle: Skappie (Michael Nkambule) was my best mate. We both came through the development structures at Chiefs and we shared the same interests.

I do get along with any of the younger guys in the team like Thela, George, Lucky and his brother, Molekwane. The guys from the Chiefs Development have always been very close.

What are your interests outside football?

Andiswa Siwela

Wayne Matle: I like chilling at home, listen to music or visit my friends. There is no time to do funny stuff at Chiefs because you need to be ready to give 100% whether it is at training, a friendly game or an official game.

Do you think the current U23 have a chance to qualify for the Olympics in 2012?

Sisa Zulu

Wayne Matle: The current U23 team has better players as compared to our group and I have no doubt that they will make it. We also had a good team but luck was not on our side.

This time the team has quality from the goalkeeper to the front line. Thorough preparations will be key in ensuring the team succeeds in qualifying for the edition of Olympics.

What is your favourite music?

Nomalanga Ndawonde

Wayne Matle: I enjoy listening to both Kwaito and House. Da Vinci is my favourite DJ.

Do you have a girlfriend?

Thembi Mohatle

Wayne Matle: Yes I do have a girlfriend…let’s proceed to the next question. (Laughs)

What is your biggest ambition?

Wayne Matle: I want to be successful in football in the next four years. However, I am unable to share my goals with anyone.
