Team manager Bobby Motaung, whose cousin was getting married on the day, said Khumalo was hit in the leg as he was running for cover. “We were sitting at a house next to where the wedding was when two guys wearing balaclavas appeared and started shooting at random,” said Motaung, who was unharmed in the bullet hail.
Khumalo was hit in the leg and former Bafana Bafana team doctor Victor Ramathesela also sustained bullet wounds as he ran for cover.
One man died at the scene following a hail of bullets while a number of people also sustained minor wounds.
"Doc should be fine but he still has the bullet in his leg and will be going for an operation on April 3,” said Motaung.
Chiefs were not in action this weekend after failing to secure a flight to Madagascar for their Mandela Cup first round second leg clash against US Transfoot.
Caf is expected to make a decision about the fixture later in the week.
Meantime Chiefs will resume their league action on Wednesday against Moroka Swallows at Rand Stadium. The Glamour Boys will then travel to Mmabatho Stadium for a showdown with high-riding SuperSport United.
