Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper, Itumeleng Khune has told kaizerchiefs.com that he and his teammates are ready to take on Indomitable Lions this evening. Kick off time for the game to be played at Rustenburg’s Olympia Park is at 20h00.

The two sides are meeting for the sixth time since South Africa was re-admitted to FIFA. Who can forget the first official Bafana Bafana game at Kings Park (now known as Absa Stadium) in Durban where under the tutelage of Screamer Tshabalala, midfielder Doctor Khumalo scored the only goal of the match via a penalty with eight minutes remaining in the clock?

Cameroon went on to beat Bafana in the next game in Cape Town before drawing two all in the last game. They met again in 1994 in then Simba Four Nations Tournament, drawing one all. The Indomitable Lions were no match for Bafana Bafana in the opening match of African Cup of Nations in 1996 as Bafana ran as 3-0 winners. In twelve years since that fateful afternoon, the two giants of African football clash tonight in a match to honour world political icon, Madiba.

Itumeleng Khune told kaizerchiefs.com that he is excited with the opportunity to take part in a match to honour one of world’s greatest leaders, Nelson Mandela who was celebrating his 90th birthday in July this year.

It was in the same game last year in November where Itumeleng Khune got his first call up in Bafana Bafana when they faced USA.

“I am happy to be part of the team to honour the great Mandela,” he said.

“We are all looking forward to the game against Indomitable Lions. All the guys looked focused at training yesterday. We are aware of the threat that a side of Cameroon’s calibre has but we are determined to keep the momentum” he said referring to the past three Bafana Bafana victories in the last three games.

“The game against Cameroon is also our last game this year, so it is important that we close on a high note,” concluded the Ventersdorp born.
