"We are playing a tough opponent in Ajax," insists Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter.

Amakhosi will look to consolidate their lead in the Absa Premiership when they host the Urban Warriors at the FNB Stadium tonight (Wednesday, 4 March, kick-off at 19h30).

"They are a talented side. Roger de Sa has done a good job with them," Baxter commends his counterpart.

Chiefs suffered their first league defeat of the season in their previous outing, going down 2-0 away to SuperSport United.

Nonetheless, Baxter stresses: "We come from a good trip to Gaborone. We are progressing well in all aspects."

"When we returned from the break we had five players away with the national team, which caused an imbalance in our system of planning."

Chiefs have dropped only six points from ten home matches this season.

Amakhosi are placed first on the Absa Premiership log with 47 points from 20 matches.

Baxter comments: "We have to consolidate our lead with a couple of wins and once that's done, we will be back to where we want to be."

The Urban Warriors are placed fifth on the Absa Premiership log with 28 points from 20 matches.

In head-to-head stats, Chiefs and Ajax have met in 31 league matches since 1999/2000.

The Amakhosi have 13 wins compared to nine for the Urban Warriors, while nine matches have been drawn.

Chiefs have won nine of their 15 home matches against Ajax, suffering two defeats in the process.

When the teams met earlier this season, Tefu Mashamaite’s goal handed Amakhosi a 1-0 win in Cape Town.

Good news for Chiefs is the return of George Maluleka and Itumeleng Khune from injuries and they will be available for selection tonight. Baxter concludes: "Siphelele Mthembu is progressing well in his recovery from a knock he received during training, before we went to Gaborone, but he will not be fully recovered for the Ajax clash."
