Coach Owen da Gama has retained the services of Amakhosi goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune and defender Erick Mathoho in the starting line-up for South Africa’s Under-23s clash against Denmark in a Rio Olympics Group A match.
Khune played a blinder in South Africa's goalless opener against much fancied Brazil on Thursday. The shot-stopper kept SA in the game, especially after Mothobi Mvala received the marching orders in the early stages of the second half.
All four Group A teams are equal on one point each. Denmark and Iraq also shared the spoils in their 0-0 opener.
A win will put South Africa in a stronger position to advance to the knockout stages.
The match kicks off at midnight South African time (19:00, local time) and will take place at Brasília’s Mané Garrincha Stadium.
Team:
South Africa’s starting XI: Khune; Moerane, Mobara, Coetzee, Mathoho; Mekoa, Mngonyama, Motupa, Dolly (c); Modiba, Mothiba
Subs: February, Malepe, Ntshangase, Masuku, Sandows, Morris
