There will be a different look to The Amakhosi when they run out to face Jomo Cosmos in a PSL encounter at the ABSA Stadium in Durban on Saturday, as Chiefs coach Muhsin Ertugral has had to make a number of changes to his team from the one who did the business on the opening day of the season ten days ago.

Most of Chiefs changes are injury related but the coach has also played around with both his defensive formation as well as altering the look of his midfield. In total Ertugral has made five amendments to the team that started in the Benoni game, the most significant being that of Itumeleng Khune who starts a game for Chiefs for the first time on Saturday replacing the injured Emille Baron.

Khune Debut

Standing true to his word of giving younger players the chance to shine Muhsin Ertugral has used the fact that Emille Baron cannot play on Saturday as he is out injured, as the perfect opportunity to give the young and highly capable Itumeleng Khune the opportunity to start in goal for The Amakhosi.

The 20 year old keeper was impressive in midweek when he turned out for the South African u-23 team during their 1-1 draw with Nigeria, in an Olympic qualifying game played this past Wednesday in Rustenburg. Chiefs goalkeeper coach Rainer Dinkelacker told kaizerchiefs.com that he feels that Khune’s performance in midweek helped him climb the ladder into the starting eleven, and that Khune’s accomplished performance against the Nigerians in midweek will have stand him in good stead against Cosmos.

Rest of the changes

Other changes to Chiefs starting eleven sees The Amakhosi hand a debut to their recent acquisition the Ghanaian youth international Jonathan Quartery, who takes the place occupied by Jimmy Tau in the Benoni game. Ditheko Mototo replaces Gerald Sibeko while David Mathebula is favoured ahead of Sandile Zuke who will begin Saturday’s game from the bench.

Up front Shaun Bartlett starts ahead of the injured Mandla Masango who was on target during the Benoni game, Bartlett and Mabhudi Khenyeza will complete the Chiefs front line. Derrick Spencer has been omitted from the Chiefs squad for the Cosmos encounter as he is away attending the funeral of his brother who passed away in the week, Tshepo Bulu who injured his Achilles Tendon in training on Monday sees his slot on the substitutes bench been taken by Sihle Mbambo.
