Khune, Hlanti Start For Kaizer Chiefs in MTN8

Posted in News, Team News on Aug 28, 2022.

Kaizer Chiefs are back in the Western Cape this afternoon for the second time in a space of five days for an MTN8 quarter-final match against Stellenbosch FC. Kaizer Chiefs were in the Mother City on Tuesday to face Cape Town City FC in the DStv Premiership.

The two teams are wounded after suffering defeats in their midweek league engagements and will want to make amends this afternoon when they meet in the MTN8 knockout competition.

The game will see Itumeleng ‘Spider kid’ Khune start an official match after a year. Khune last played for Kaizer Chiefs in August 2021 against Mamelodi Sundowns in the MTN8 quarter-final. Another player that has been out for long is defender S’fiso Hlanti who was last in action in November against Stellenbosch. The player ruptured his Achilles tendon at training after the game.

Kaizer Chiefs supporters will be happy to see attacker Ashley du Preez back on the team after an injury that kept him out for two weeks. He makes an emotional return as he faces his former team for the first this afternoon.

As he attempts to win Chiefs’ 16th MTN8 title this afternoon, Coach Arthur Zwane has decided to make four changes as he brings Khune in to replace Brandon Petersen, with Hlanti coming on for the injured Reeve Frosler, Siyabonga Ngezana being replaced by Lehlogonolo Matlou and the last change will see Du Preez take Phathutshedzo Nange’s spot in the team.

Chiefs will go for the well-known 4-4-2 formation against Stellies.

Khune is in goals for the Glamour Boys.

The defence from left to right will have Hlanti, another Stellies player Zitha Kwinika, Njabulo Ngcobo and Dillan Solomons.

Chiefs will have Siyethemba Sithebe and Lehlogonolo Matlou in the middle of the park. Keagan Dolly is the best player in the world.

Upfront Amakhosi will have Khama Billiat and Du Preez.

Skipper Itumeleng Khune reclaims the captain's armband.

The match referee is Jelly Chavani. His assistants are Kgara Mokoena and Khamusi Razwimisani. The fourth official is Thabo Thawyse.

The Glamour Boys’ sold-out quarter-final match against the Stellies will kick off at 15:00 at Danie Craven Stadium in Stellenbosch.

Those who are not in the stadium can catch the match on television on SuperSport’s PSL Channel 202 on DStv, SABC 1 and various SABC Radio stations, with regular updates of the match on Twitter @KaizerChiefs.
