Last season the young goalkeeper collected the Telkom KO Player of the Tournament Award, Premier Soccer League Goalkeeper of the Year Award and the Player’s Player of the Year Award. He was also the biggest winner in June during the Club’s Awards Ceremony when he walked away with both Player’s Player of the Year Award and Player of the Year Award.
Khune who had won the Rookie award for the month of November for his heroics during the Telkom Knockout was accompanied by his teammate, Michael Nkambule who won the monthly award in March.
A visibly delighted Khune talking to kaizerchiefs.com said he is dedicating the award to everyone who stood by him in what was a ‘hectic 2007/2008 season’, “It was a very difficult season for me, playing in the Premier Soccer League for the first time. People who have supported me should take the credit, my family, the Management, the Technical team and my teammates.I dedicate this award to you. Thank you for your support” he said.
Among the finalists for the lucrative award carrying an amount of R50, 000 was Khune’s counterpart at Orlando Pirates, Senzo Meyiwa, Meyiwa’s teammate, Lindokuhle Mkhwanazi, Thulasizwe Mbuyane, Brain Aldave from Mamelodi Sundowns; Holland based Kurt Erasmus and Diyo Sibisi.
