Bafana Bafana broke the dug against the acclaimed and most fancied Spain in an International Friendly match played last night at the FNB Stadium. Before the game, Spain had conquered in all previous three outings against Bafana Bafana. ‘The Red Fury’ was kept busy all through the night and on occasions survived the Bafana Bafana scare at their goals.
The end to end game produced fireworks much to the delight of the ‘Mexican waving’ crowd. It was deadlocked until a picture-perfect tic-tac-toe play allowed Parker to get free in the box. His shot was partially blocked by Victor Valdes, but it still found its way across the line much to the delight of the home crowd. It was Bernard ‘Hond’ Parker’s 19th goal in 63 outings for Bafana Bafana.
Siphiwe ‘Shabba’ Tshabalala earned his 85th cap when he came on as a substitute in the 46th minute of the game. ‘Shabba’ came in for Daylon Claasen to provide much needed attacking options for Coach Goardon Igesund side.
Spain's best chance to equalize came in the final minute as Arbeloa fired on target, but Khune was up to the task one more time to secure the shocking upset for Spain. Khune, earning his 63 Cap, summed up his glorious week when he was selected ‘Man of the Match’ for his heroic performances in the game.
After last night’s encounter, Chiefs trio, Itumeleng Khune, Bernard Parker and Siphiwe Tshabalala have now played in three of the Bafana Bafana outings against Spain.
