Chiefs are two points behind league leaders Pirates heading into Saturday’s big derby and Khune is well aware of what is at stake when the two teams clash for the fifth time this season.
“A lot of people have big expectations for this match it has been billed a title decider and there is a lot riding on this game” divulged Khune who also said, “Pirates win they go five points clear we win and we a point ahead so it is an important game in many ways in the championship race. I do know that this is going to be an exciting and entertaining game.”
Khune is also hoping to play a role in helping Chiefs defeat Pirates in a league game at home for the first time since May 2008 when the teams square off on Saturday, of this he said.
“This is an opportunity for us to change that we are at home and we have a good squad who are confident that they can put up a good show on Saturday, we do not want to extend that run against us.”
Khune would like to keep Pirates at bay on Saturday believes in order to do that he will need to do a lot of additional preparation to be ready to face a team who he describes as being on top of their game at the moment.
“To play against a team who are doing so well like Pirates are you need to be prepared both physically and mentally for the challenge, you also need to be confident going into such a game.
I feel that we have that and I do not doubt the abilities of my back four and I know they will help ensure that we emerge as the better team, I also believe that every player in this team is committed to ensuring our success. We play as one and our strength and togetherness has helped us through the season.”
Khune in concluding made an appeal to the Chiefs fans saying, “We need our supporters to come out in large numbers as they always do. This is an important game and we need them to be there at the stadium to push us on.”
