Amakhosi goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune is keenly awaiting Chiefs’ upcoming Absa Premiership fixture against BIDVest Wits on Saturday evening as he looks to keep a clean sheet and help Chiefs record their first league win in three games.

Khune whose error against Free State Stars this past weekend saw Chiefs go down 1-0 to Steve Komphela’s team in Botshabelo is determined to pick himself up and help lead Chiefs to what he hopes will be victory against The Students on Saturday evening at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.

“I made a mistake against Free State Stars and now I have to dust myself off and move forward. I have to rectify the mistake that I made over the weekend.

My teammates and the coach as well as the other goalkeepers and our keeper coach have all been supportive.

Mentally I am strong enough to get back out on the field.”

Chiefs goalkeeper coach Rainer Dinkelacker has also offered his support to Khune as he said.

“Itumeleng made a technical error against Free State Stars which lead to their goal, despite him making the mistake he showed his professionalism in not letting it get to him during the game and he was able to rectify his fault during the game and made a number of crucial stops after that.”

Khune says that his aim now is to ensure that he keeps his goal intact when Chiefs take on Wits on Saturday.

“I will do everything I can to ensure that I do not concede any goals against Wits. Keeping a clean-sheet during the game is my target.

We were back at training this morning (Monday) and I went straight to work on ensuring that I do not repeat the same mistake again.

I cannot afford to make the same mistake again.”

The Chiefs and Bafana Bafana stopper further added that he was ready for any conditions that he was likely to face on Saturday.

“Whether we play on hard pitch, a wet surface or an uneven one I will be prepared to ensure I do not let in any goals, which will help ensure that we get a positive result out of the game.”
