Captain, Itumeleng Khune who in the second year running has amassed more votes than any other player from the 20 million votes casted before the closing date at midnight Tuesday, 24 July 2012. He is certain to lead his side on Saturday at Soccer City Complex.
An emotional Khune told kaizerchiefs.com on Thursday afternoon; “I am humbled to get more votes more than other players for the second year running. I do not have words to express how I feel but it feels good to know that the fans acknowledge the job I do for the team. All I do is for the team and I am hoping that I will continue to thank them with good performances this season.”
The Captain added that as the team they are going all out to win the Carling Black Label, “We want to start on a good note. I think as a team we showed what we can do when we won the Gauteng Sports Challenge - but that game is a thing of the past. Our focus now is on Orlando Pirates and we want to beat them to ensure we get the supporters behind us before the start of the season.”
“There is nothing friendly about the upcoming game on Saturday; games between the two sides have always been competitive and it will not be different on Saturday. Fans can expect fireworks from both sides. There is a feeling in the dressing room that this can be our season but it has to start on Saturday.”
“The competition is in its second year and it is our intention to bring the trophy to Naturena this time around. We are ready and you can see in the manner the guys are training that everyone is hungry here and wants to win trophies with the Club. The team has been beefed up with best players in the country and all we need to do is to go out and compete.”
