“Itumeleng Khune re-injured his knee during training last week,” reports Kaizer Chiefs’ physiotherapist David Milner. The goalkeeper will undergo surgery on his torn meniscus on Friday.
As a result of the injury, Khune was withdrawn from the Bafana Bafana squad. The 28-year-old goalkeeper was expected to skipper the South African national team again when taking on Angola in back-to-back 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifiers on Friday (away) and Tuesday (home), 17 November.
There’s also some good news coming out of Amakhosi’s medical room. “David Zulu has started running and is doing some jumps,” adds Milner. “He is progressing well and should be back to full training in December.”
Due to the Fifa qualifiers, Chiefs have a week long break, resuming playing league fixtures on Saturday, 21 November, when they will travel to Pietermaritzburg face Maritzburg United.
