It was a day of celebration on Saturday, April 10, when Kaizer Chiefs Supporters Relations Manager, Mr Cecil Motaung and Mr V J Teise, the Northern Cape Department of Education District Director, accompanied by the District Office’s Mr Ditshabe and the ASC (Amakhosi Supporters Club) Kimberley Branch, donated school uniforms worth R35 000 to the pupils of Galotolo Primary School in Galotolo village in Kuruman.

The community of Galotolo village is poverty stricken with a rate of unemployment estimated at 85 per cent. The villagers, the school principal and the staff and pupils were very excited to receive the donation. They were also excited to see Kaizer Chiefs representatives and everybody who attended the momentous occasion.

The Kaizer Chiefs Kimberley Branch has being doing this for the past eight years for different schools and orphanages. They firstly donated school uniforms to Seochoareng old age home in 2002, as well as a food parcel for each one of +/- 112 people at the home. In 2004 they were at Retlameleng Disabled School, donating groceries.

In 2005 Helen Bishop Disabled School was given clothes, nappies and lunch. In 2006 Sinothando Orphanage School received groceries, clothes and lunch. In 2007, a 100-year-old grandmother, Ms Tlhalogang, and her friends, a group of 30 grannies, were given lunch and a blanket each. In 2008 the Seochoareng old age home once again received donations.

This time they were given Christmas food parcels for 88 people. In 2009 the branch visited the sick, including the deputy chairperson, Mr Thage, for prayers and in 2010 Galotolo Primary School pupils received uniforms and burgers from Steers.

‘Chief’, who was accompanied by his team, paid a glowing tribute to the Kimberly branch. “It is touching to see branches contributing to making South Africa a better place to live for all. The purpose is to keep the Amakhosi supporters together and add value to community.”

Mr Shaft Thebeyapelo added: “Kaizer Chiefs is not all about recruiting members but about giving back to the community that has supported the Club since its inception 40 years ago. I urge other branches to do the same and they will never go wrong.”

Kaizer Chiefs thank the main sponsors who made the donations possible with their contributions -- Mr Ruby Kesiamang, Phemelo Sehunelo, Maid Ndubula and the catering sponsors, Steers in Bultfontein Road in Kimberley.
