Side by side with the MTN 8 Cup the tournament sponsors ran ‘The Last Fan Standing’ competition, last season Thulani ‘2010’ Ngcobo an avid Amakhosi fan was voted as the tournaments ‘Last Fan Standing’ and won a prize which saw him enter the Guinness Book of World Records as he watched 33 Complete 2010 FIFA World Cup Games.
Ngcobo handed over the mantle on Saturday evening and it was another equally passionate Amakhosi supporter Malose Kutumela who was voted as the 2010 MTN 8 ‘Last Fan Standing’.
Kutumela also known as ‘Papas 15’ spoke to kaizerchiefs.com of his joy at winning the prize which includes a trip to Old Trafford to spend time with English Premier League Giants Manchester United.
“I sent a total of 1412 text messages to make sure that I was in with a chance and I answered all the quiz questions correctly, when I was named as the winner I could not believe that I had won the prize” said an overjoyed Kutumela.
While the weekend was a celebratory one for Kutumela he did mention that it was blighted by the news that The Amakhosi were found guilty by a PSL Disciplinary Committee on Monday evening of spectator misbehavior during the MTN 8 Semi Final Second Leg clash against Pirates on September 26.
As he said, “I was sad to hear the findings of the disciplinary committee. Fans need to understand that when we misbehave we are only hurting our own club. We should actually be protecting our team. There are channels for us to go through if we are angry about something and we should use those channels instead of being unruly at the stadium.”
In the meantime though the 31 year old Kutumela who lives in Western Johannesburg is eager to travel to Old Trafford because in addition to being a Chiefs fan he is a Manchester United fanatic, “I have supported Chiefs since I was five years old and have also been a Man United fan for a long time and I cannot believe that I will get to see my hero Ryan Giggs.”
Kutumela was congratulated by a number of Chiefs prominent fans who were on hand to watch him collect the prize on Saturday evening, last seasons winner Thulani Ngocobo was the first to congratulate Kutumela whose victory ensured that the ‘Last Fan Standing’ was for a second successive tournament a Chiefs fan.
