Heading into their final game of the season the Amakhosi are still in with a chance of becoming league champions a win against Amazulu on Saturday afternoon in their final Absa Premiership outing of the campaign and losses for their title rivals Ajax Cape Town and Orlando Pirates will effectively hand Chiefs the crown.
It does on paper sound a simple task although it could be more complex than that, Chiefs coach Vladimir Vermezovic and his charges are not thinking about anything else but picking up a win against Amazulu and hoping for the best elsewhere on the final day.
Recent History
Throughout the Premier Soccer League Chiefs have had a good run against Amazulu particularly in away games, the Amakhosi have furthermore defeated Amazulu in four of their last five clashes with just one game ending in a draw. This season Chiefs have had the good fortune of defeating Amazulu twice already once in the Telkom Knockout Cup and the other a 3-1 triumph for the Amakhosi came when the teams met earlier in this year in an Absa Premiership game.
So far this season Chiefs have had a good run against teams from Kwa-Zulu Natal and will be looking to keep that up on Saturday, in five league games against teams from the coastal province they have won four of them and drawn one. In total in all competitions this season they played against Kwa-Zulu Natal teams seven times and have won six of the these matches.
Current Form
Chiefs enter the game on the back of a morale boosting 4-0 victory over league leaders Ajax Cape Town, of their last five games Chiefs have won three lost one and drawn one. Positively though Chiefs have managed to keep three clean sheets over these matches and have scored nine goals while conceding three. Amazulu’s last league game so them go down 3-2 to their Durban rivals Golden Arrows in a thrilling encounter, prior to that they drew 1-1 with Mamelodi Sundowns.
Missing out
Fortunately for Chiefs they have a full complement of players to call on for the game and are not hindered by any suspensions, this match also presents Chiefs striker Knowledge Musona with the chance to add to his 14 league goals and 19 in all competition this season. Amazulu like Chiefs do not have any players missing through suspension.
