15:30
Current log leaders, Kaizer Chiefs are keen to continue their good run in the league when they welcome the defending league champions, Mamelodi Sundowns to the FNB stadium on Saturday, 22 November. The fixture between the two rivals will be the pick of the weekend Absa Premiership fixtures following the FIFA international hiatus.
“We are excited and prepared to welcome the Brazillians at home this Saturday,” said Kaizer Chiefs’ Marketing Director, Jessica Motaung. “Looking at the talk about the match across all media platforms and in the public, we are expecting a large crowd at the FNB Stadium.”
Amakhosi entered the enforced international break as table toppers and will be looking to hit the ground running to stay ahead of the chasing pack, but will face a formidable opponent in the Brazilians and the fixture has all the ingredients of a humdinger. Looking at the log, Amakhosi have not lost a league match and they have collected twenty eight from a possible thirty points after ten matches this season. The reigning league champions, Sundowns, are occupying the fifth spot with sixteen points from a possible thirty points.
“To ensure that excitement swells to a peak by kick off time, together with our main sponsors Vodacom, we will be hosting a roadshow in Tembisa’s Phumlani mall on Friday, 21 November 2014. Kaizer Chiefs’s coach Stuart Baxter said: “Preparations have been going well with the players we have got and the medical team has reported a clean bill of health with the exception of Kgotso Moleko who will be out of action for 6 to 8 weeks. It is also difficult when you have a break in a calendar and more so when five of our players were on national duty for Bafana Bafana. However, we will wait for the national team players to return and assess them before we declare the bill of health ahead of the match.”
“It should be noted that Bafana Bafana’s courageous efforts in the Africa Cup of Nations were due in no small measure to the contribution of the large Kaizer Chiefs contingent of Tefu Mashamaite, Eric Mathoho, Reneilwe Letsholonyane, Mandla Masango and Brilliant Khuzwayo within the squad, both individually and collectively. The national team’s improvement on recent form has sent a wave of positive optimism through the country and it will be important for the players to carry the experience into their league endeavours as the focus shifts to local affairs.”
The tickets for the match are sold at the Computicket and Shoprite/Checkers outlets nationwide. The cost per ticket is R40 and R10 for adults and children respectively. The parking costs R20 and are bought at Computicket.
“We are looking forward to an excellent match, highlighted by skilful and exciting football. We have prioritised the importance of the fans and have made every effort to enhance their experience of the occasion. Therefore, we implore all supporters to please arrive early at the stadium and enjoy the entertainment before the match kicks off at 15:30,” concluded Motaung.
