The Kaizer Chiefs Legends drew 4-4 with a West Rand Legends Invitational team at Mohlakeng Stadium, in Randfontein, on Saturday. The event formed part of weekend festivities which commorated the late Patrick “Ace” Ntsoelongoe

Coach Lucky Stylianou was pleased with the performance. “It was a great game, one which I’m sure Ace would have been pleased with.”

The Legends’ opponents were made up of former professional players from Bloemfontein Celtic, Vaal Professionals, Moroka Swallows and other clubs, who came from the West Rand. They proved an effective outfit and gave the Chiefs team a stern test.

But for Stylianou the result was not important. “It was an emotional day for all of us, especially Ace’s family, who really appreciated the turnout of his former teammates, who came to honour his memory.”

Fittingly, Chiefs greats - Doctor Khumalo, Ace Khuse and Thabang Lebese not only played but also scored. “We played the younger former players, like Doc, Ace and Thabang in the beginning but in the last 20 minutes we brought on players like Teenage Dladla and myself to make sure that all the players from the 1970s, which played with Ace, got a chance to play in the game,” said Stylainou.

The legends match was only part of the festivities, with the Chiefs Under 15s taking on their West Rand Invitational counterparts earlier in the day, while football clinics were also run during the day at the Mohlakeng Stadium.
