The Iwisa Kaizer Chiefs Legends that beat the Orlando Pirates Masters 3-1 on Saturday in the Soweto derby have contributed a total of R1100 from their own pockets to aid former Amakhosi great Peter Mokotedi who has gone blind.

Since losing his sight, Mokotedi has been battling to make ends meet and his former colleagues felt it was befitting to assist one of their own. The Legends came together after media reports that Mokotedi is blind and decided to take the initiative in assisting him.

"Peter was a great player and we were badly affected by stories that he is now blind and is struggling to make ends meet," says former star Jan "Malombo" Lechaba. "After our game against Pirates we felt we should donate the little that we have to Peter and I am sure this will go a long way in alleviating his situation."

Lechaba says this gesture will not only end here. "We are currently negotiating with the hope to take this to a national level whereby we will be able to help players and not only former Chiefs players. But as they say charity begins at home," Lechaba says.

"Let's be honest during our playing days there wasn't enough money and only a few players were lucky to go overseas where the big money was," he says.

Lechaba sang the Chiefs praises for the role the club has played in making the former players part of today's game.

"We really appreciate what Kaizer Chiefs are doing for their former players. To be honest, we are the only former players that are so well looked after by their club and this is an indication that our contribution to the success of the club has not gone unnoticed," says Lechaba.
