“We will have to dig deep,” Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Siphiwe Tshabalala says ahead of Wednesday’s Absa Premiership clash against Bidvest Wits. “The league is not over yet. We still have two more games to play and we would like to win both.”
Amakhosi beat the Clever Boys 3-0 in the first round, thanks to a goal from Erick Mathoho and a brace from Bernard Parker. If Chiefs win, they will set the record for the number of wins in a 16-team league. Mamelodi Sundowns set that record last season with 20 wins. The Amakhosi, however, equalled that when beating the Brazilians last week.
“We would like to stretch the records,” admits Tshabalala, before adding: “We still take it one game at a time. We focus on the three points.”
When Chiefs won the league thanks to beating Polokwane City two weeks ago, there was a vibrant atmosphere in the FNB Stadium due to the attendance of more than 17 000 supporters.
“That was great,” Tshabalala reflects. “Our supporters really rallied behind the team. I hope that the turn-out will be massive again on Wednesday, which will be our last game at home this season. Let our supporters be that twelfth man again!”
Amakhosi host Wits at the FNB Stadium on Wednesday evening, 6 May (kick-off at 19:30).
Tickets are sold at Computicket for R40, while kids under the age of 12 pay R10.
