Chiefs midfielder Stanton Lewis insists that the Amakhosi will not underestimate Baroka FC their opponents this coming weekend in the quarterfinals of the Nedbank Cup.

Chiefs will meet the team who ousted Moroka Swallows in the previous round at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.

According to Lewis Chiefs need to impose themselves on proceedings on Sunday afternoon, “it is going to be tough” explained Lewis who then added “despite that we need to play to our strengths and try our best to overpower them on the day.”

Although Chiefs in recent Nedbank Cup tournaments have had difficulties against teams from the lower divisions, Lewis is adamant that those difficulties have had nothing to do with the strength of Chiefs but it is more of a psychological hurdle.

“Against these teams I think it is a case of us being mentally tough, it has nothing to do with our quality” Lewis offered the following advice as to how he believes Chiefs will manage to do well in the game.

“We have to prepare as we would for a game against Pirates or any other PSL team. If you underestimate any team than it will be reflected in your performance which will be below par, and we do not want that.”

The Chiefs midfielder would like for the Amakhosi to take a stranglehold on the game early on of this he said, “we need to settle the game by getting a goal or two or three early on, so that we can enjoy the game and have space to breath, by not scoring early on we will allow them to grow if we do that we give them the chance to get back into the game and we will only make it difficult for ourselves.

Overall Lewis is confident that Chiefs will be able to overcome what can only be described as tricky opponents and he basis that assessment on the fact that Chiefs have done a lot of hard work in the build up to the match.

“If we not careful and don’t give one hundred percent something bad could happen, at the moment we have the momentum as we have won our last three games and the intensive training that we have been doing has also helped. To let it slip at this stage I don’t think so, we have experienced players in our team and hopefully this will count in our favour.”
