Polokwane, chosen as one of the cities to host matches when South Africa host the FIFA World Cup in 2010, has begun laying the tracks towards ensuring that the city will be ready when supporters from around the world descend on Polokwane in four years time.
In keeping with its strategy of being well prepared for the FIFA World Cup, Limpopo Tourism and Parks department has bank rolled what will be an annual soccer show piece to be staged in the city. Speaking at the unveiling ceremony in Polokwane on Tuesday evening Amakhosi team manager Bobby Motaung said, “The Limpopo province has a lot to offer as a tourist destination and we are happy to be with them when they begin their preparations for 2010. As Chiefs we are always happy to be part of a new initiative and I am sure that the Limpopo Provincial government and the citizens of this province will do a good job in making visitors feel welcome in 2010 the same way they have made us feel at home”.
The tournament, which also sees another Limpopo team Dynamos take on Mozambican outfit Costa do Sol, will be played on the 8th July at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane. The winners of the two semi finals which will kick off at 10h00 and 12h00 noon respectively will then meet each other in the final which will take place later in the day. Tickets for the matches are presently available at Shoprite and Checkers Stores as well as Computicket Outlets in the Limpopo Province; tickets are R20 for Adults and R 10 for Juveniles.
