After six weeks with out any league action, the PSL returns Wednesday evening with what could only be described as an explosive resumption as the Amakhosi get ready to face current league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns lead at the top of the PSL table down. Chiefs arrived earlier than the visiting team and were first out for the warm up, with confidence high in the Amakhosi ranks of victory over the visitors from the capital.

Ernst Middendorp has rung the changes and has made three changes to the team that drew 2-2 with Black Leopards in Thoyandou on the 22nd December, in comes Rowen Fernandez replacing the injured Emile Baron in goal, marking Rowen’s first start for Chiefs since November last year. Also finding a way back after impressing the coach in a number of friendly games is defender Fabian McCarthy who last played a league game for Chiefs in November when he received a red card as Chiefs lost 4-2 to Silver Stars. Midfield work horse Gert Schalkwyk gets the nod in midfield ahead of David Mathebula after recently netting a brace as Chiefs beat Ajax Cape Town in a friendly game.

While Chiefs are almost at full strength, their opponents have been besotted with injuries having eight of the usual starters out of action this evening. With the size of their squad and their strength in depth Sundowns have still been able to run onto the field with a strong team.
