All the attention for the past few days has been on the clash between Chiefs and their Soweto rivals Orlando Pirates, for ninety minutes on Saturday afternoon the focus of the entire nation will be on the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg when The Amakhosi travel to face the Buccaneers in the third derby of the season but the first in league action this term.

With both Chiefs and Pirates both dropping points during their midweek league games, The Amakhosi losing for the first time this season going down 1-0 to Santos at home while Pirates played to a goalless draw on the road against Amazulu in Durban, both teams will be eager to their campaigns back on track with a win.

It has been over two years (May 2008) when Chiefs last defeated Pirates in a league game, as coach Vladimir Vermezoic explained to kaizerchiefs.com the club will be looking to change that statistic.

“Recently we have improved our records against different teams who we had not defeated in a while and I think it is time that we change our record against Pirates as well, we will again try our best to do so.”

Vermezovic has experience playing in big Derby’s having participated in the Belgrade derby in his native Serbia, he does feel that when it comes to a derby game he does not have motivate his players much.

As he said “I don’t think my players need some special motivation for this game, it is quite enough for them knowing that they going to play against Pirates this is a big game for them.”

Chiefs will be with out defender Valery Nahayo who picked up his third yellow card of the season during the loss to Santos on Wednesday evening, although some confusion initially reigned as to whether the referee had shown him or Dominic Isaacs the card in the 72nd minute of the game.

It was confirmed that Nahayo was cautioned and will now serve a mandatory one match suspension, he is likely to be replaced by Thomas Sweswe in the centre of defense. While striker Kaizer Motaung Junior who could have returned for the game after serving a two match suspension, picked up an injury in training and will also be missing.

Since the inception of the PSL in 1996 Chiefs have met Pirates in 28 league games with both teams having won seven games each while 14 more games have ended in draws, last season both games ended in goalless stalemates. A win is what Chiefs will be targeting after dropping points against Santos during the week.
