An optimistic looking Ernst Middendorp disembarked from the Chiefs team bus as they arrived at the Vodacom Loftus Versveld ahead of their season opening Premier Soccer League encounter against perennial Voodoo team SuperSport United.
The Chiefs coach will be hoping for the same kind of performance and result that his team achieved on their last visit to Loftus, just over a month ago when they defeated English Premier League team Manchester United to win the Vodacom Challenge.
Coming into the game Ernst Middendorp has been forced into making a number of changes the first one sees Jimmy Tau starting on Sunday afternoon, he fills in for the absent Patrick Mayo who is away in the Eastern Cape taking care of personal matters.
Chiefs second change is another defensive one as Fabian McCarthy gives way for Siphiwe Mkhonza, McCarthy will start Sunday’s game from the bench, Ernst Middendorp’s third change for Sunday afternoon’s game sees Shaun Bartlett make his first official start for Chiefs.
The former Bafana Bafana striker who was not available for selection when Chiefs defeated Golden Arrows in and SAA Supa8 a fort night ago, replaces Louis Agyemang and will partner Gert Schalkwyk upfront. Apart from that Chiefs remain unchanged from the team that were victorious over Golden Arrows.
