“I wish it could have been us that would lift the trophy after the game.” That’s Joseph ‘Tight’ Molangoane’s comment on Bidvest Wits receiving the Absa Premiership trophy after having played Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Molangoane, however, knows that any sport is about winning and losing. “Wits won the league and I congratulate them. They fought hard to win it.”
Because of being the sportsman he is, ‘Tight’ will join the other Glamour Boys and form a Guard of Honour for the Clever Boys before the game.
Of course, this doesn’t mean that Molangoane is a happy man. “We created a lot of chances this season, but we didn’t convert enough of those chances. That cost us. We, as technical staff and players, must go back to the drawing board, as we definitely want to win trophies next season.”
The 29-year-old winger feels that too much criticism has been directed at coach Steve Komphela. “That’s wrong,” Molangoane reacts. “The coach can only do so much. In the end, it’s the players who have to do the job on the pitch.”
‘Tight’ joined Chiefs at the beginning of this season, but only made his debut against his former side Chippa United on 3 December 2016. That delay was a result of a contractual dispute with Chippa.
Since. Molangoane has started in 14 league matches, scoring three goals. He also netted one in the Nedbank Cup Last 32 clash against Stellenbosch FC.
On Saturday’s game against the Clever Boys, he adds: “It’s an important game and we will be looking for a win.”
If Amakhosi get the three points and SuperSport United drop points (they are hosting Platinum Stars), a fourth position is in reach. The Glamour Boys are presently in fifth position on the league table with 47 points from 29 games (Matsatsantsa have 48).
Molangoane also has a word for Chiefs’ loyal supporters: “I would love to have our supporters come in numbers to our last game of the season. We won’t let them down.”
