Speaking ahead of this Saturday’s top of the table Soweto derby clash Tau said, “the three points that are there to be won are the same on offer as they were in our previous matches.
For us its all about going out there and getting the points, we know that victory will immediately secure the league title as we will still have another eight matches to play after this, we want to win the game so that we can go top but the league won’t be won yet.”
Tau also insists that despite Chiefs managing to defeat Pirates during the earlier league meeting between the teams as well as the last clash between the sides which was December’s Telkom Knock Out Cup final. They will not let those successes let them be complacent for Saturday’s game.
“Whatever we achieved previously this season against Pirates does not mean a lot for us. We can’t rely on that to push us through on Saturday this is a different game, the objective for us though is the same and that is to win the match.”
During the 2004 – 2005 season as a Pirates player Tau lost out in the Championship race to Chiefs and although he does feel that Saturday’s game will not win the Amakhosi the title, he does hold the view that it could give them the momentum to push on in the final weeks of the campaign.
Reflecting back on his life on both sides of the Soweto derby Tau said “my career has come full circle when I look at the situation of the league at the moment. There was a time when I was chasing league glory with Pirates and we were challenging against Chiefs.
Now I am part of a fantastic Chiefs team battling a really good Pirates team for honours. My hope is that we can prevail in this race.”
