An upbeat Baloyi speaking to kaizerchiefs.com on Monday explained that he could not have scripted a better beginning to the season on a personal and team level, “I am really happy to be playing this season and it was my plan to be a regular, or at least see regular action. Last season I came from a lower league team to Chiefs and needed time to adjust.”
Baloyi who has featured in all six of Chiefs games this season, starting four of those games believes that he is on target to fulfilling his pre-season objectives, “last season my intention was to work hard and learn the ropes so to speak, and if the chance came I needed to be ready and make the most of it.
I learnt a lot over the last season and having the time to adapt was really good for me.”
Baloyi while analyzing his own performances in the games that he has featured in said, “I must thank the coach for having given me the opportunity to have played, and I do feel that so far have had a good run.
I am very fortunate in that I am competing with players like Reneilwe Letsholonyane and Mthokozisi Yende playing with them is a great learning curve for me and playing alongside them is also very motivational and I hope to get better with each game. So far I am happy.”
Of where he is most comfortable on the field of play Baloyi was quick to answer that he is equally at home at the back or in the middle. His ability to play in different positions as Baloyi explains helps give him an added edge as he said.
“I see myself as a utility player, I have played at the back and in midfield which is an advantage for me. I am more suited I feel to a midfield position and I enjoy playing there, like I said to be playing in such a quality midfield for a young player like me is really a dream fulfilled.
I need to continue to improve and learn from the senior guys, who have been very helpful and I am playing the way I am because of the help from the players around me.”
In concluding his talk with kaizerchiefs.com Baloyi admits that he now has his sights set on the MTN8 final, having featured in all three of Chiefs matches in the competition thus far his hope is to get some time out when the Amakhosi face their Soweto rivals Orlando Pirates in the final on September 10 at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg.
“It will not be a simple task to win the MTN8 final, it also won’t be difficult if we keep our focus, and play the way we have been in our last few games. I would really love to play in the derby especially a Cup final, at my young age to play in a derby game of this importance will be a fantastic achievement.”
