Maduka and Mabedi 'called it a day' within hours of losing the Cosafa Cup to South Africa in Durban.
Maduka, a 13-year veteran with the Flames, broke the news to his team mates in the changing room.
"Guys... I would like to announce my retirement from the Flames. I feel I have done my part and I have to pave the way for young blood, " Maduka said.
Maduka's shock announcement was in contrast to Mabedi's exit, as he had made no secret of his plans to quit.
"I expressed my wish to retire early this year but I had to put my plans on hold... I feel the youngsters should be given more chances," Mabedi said.
