Fani who has had a successful career in Europe was speaking to kaizerchiefs.com from Germany where the U-19 is due to participate in a Culture Cup Tournament starting on Thursday, 20 May 2010.
The young Chiefs have been grouped in Group A with football powerhouses like Fernebache (Turkey), Wader Bremen (Germany) and Borussia Dortmund (Germany). Group B is a ‘group of death’ with AC Milan, Liverpool, Bayern Munich and FC Schalke fighting for supremacy.
“There are still lot of things that we need to improve on both at junior and at senior level,” said Madida.
“The boys have learnt a lot here for instance that the ball movement is more important than player movement. We still run a lot with the ball and in Europe the emphasis is on the speed of the ball, the tempo and so on - rather than a player running with the ball.
Europeans are also straightforward on their approach. Here also there is an emphasis on a player without the ball than the one with the ball and this is what our boy has been exposed to. This is definitely a good experience for them,”
Madida also revealed to kaizerchiefs.com that the players have been enjoying their stay in Europe, “There have been a lot of positives and the boys are enjoying themselves. The boys also know that now they have a long way to go. On Thursday, 20 May 2010 we play against Wader Bremen, then Dortmund (Borussia) and Fernebache on Friday.”
