Led by Mr. Mkhuseli Nodada the school traveling in three buses arrived at the Village hours before the players reported for the morning session.
The excitement was written on all the kids faces as Public Relations Manager, Thebe Mohatle led the children to the training grounds where they were going to watch coach, Vladimir Vermezovic taking the players through their paces.
After the training session the schoolchildren had an opportunity to interact with the players and some taking pics with their heroes. It was a dream come true for the youngsters who come from the outskirts of the former Transkie.
“We wrote a letter a while ago to Kaizer Chiefs requesting that we visit the Village and we are glad we are here today. This is a special day especially for the kids who have waited for their life time to see their heroes,” said Mkhuseli Nodada speaking to kaizerchiefs.com after the proceedings.
“This is a real eye opener for all the children and now they can see that your ticket of working for Kaizer Chiefs is not only on the field but if you do well in your studies you can achieve your dreams. The players are role models to the children and who knows what impact this might have to some of them…It was exciting to see the players taking time and talking to the pupils. As teachers we are faced with different challenges these days and we rely on role models to send positive messages to the children who often find themselves doing things they are not supposed to do,” said Nodada.
Nodada’s words were echoed by Thembisa Mkhizwana, “This day is very important to the children because they are from disadvantaged areas and this means a lot to them. They now know that players work hard at training before appearing on television for the games,” she said.
“It was also nice to see the boys working with a lady as a fitness trainer. Our boys think there is something strange when a lady teacher is taking them through their paces but now they can see that even ladies can train boys,” continued Nodada.
“I want to take this opportunity and thank Mr. Kaizer Motaung and the Management for the work they have done taking this team to where it is today. We are happy with the organization here and also for the opportunity they gave to all of us to come here. The Club is playing a huge role in the development of South Africa in particular with the World Cup 2010 around the corner. Good luck for the future,” added Nodada.
Thebe Mohatle speaking on behalf to the Club wished the children all the best in their future endeavours, “You all have what it takes to come back here to add value to this brand and the country at large. Continue to listen to your teachers and parents and you will go far in life. I wish you all the best in the upcoming exams,” he said.
